Varzuga River Russia

Ian Gordon [Speyonline] in partnership with Planet Fly Fishing is pleased to offer exclusive 30 km of the most attractive and enjoyable salmon fishing on the Kola Peninsula on the famous Varzuga River. One of the best value for money for salmon fishing in Russia.

The Varzuga is a river with clear water and easy wading, popular with fishermen salmon worldwide. This is not surprising given  the high catch statistics, incredible scenery and wonderful pools for fly fishing . The camp Grand Varzuga has rights to about 30 km of the river and tributaries.

It is located about 12 km upstream of the confluence with the Pana River.

The river is medium in size, from 30 to 65 meters wide with numerous rapids and rocky areas that provide very good lies for salmon. Although less numerable, there are also a good number of slower and deeper holding pools which holding larger fish throughout the summer months. For the most this is superb fly water.

The good season begins in late May and ends in June. Beginning of the period, the water can still be a little high and cold but it's the perfect time to take the biggest salmon .

From the beginning of June the temperature increases and fish runs intensify , fishing can then be done with  lighter leaders and floating lines and interchangeable tips.

The Varzuga is not a trophy fish river but this is largely compensated by the  number of very stable catches of between 20 and 30 fish  from 6 to 16lbs per rod during the 3 weeks we offer.

Instead of fishing 3 full weeks, as for many this may be a fishing experience of a lifetime, we have decided to divide these 3 weeks in two stays of 9 days fishing. We feel this will provide our guests not only with great value for money, but offer the best chance to fully appreciate this wonderful environment having travelled so far. A unique experience for fishing in this part of the world.

The Grand Varzuga camp is ideally  situated on the river, providing our clients with lovey pools and plenty fish.

Accommodation is composed of 10 single rooms distributed in five cabins, a shower block, and washing facilities. The dining area is large with veranda overlooking the river.

A sauna is also available to relax after long fishing. Welcome to the Salmon Fisherman's Paradise!
