Gordon Castle River Spey
Gordon Castle/Brae Water is the largest beat on the river. Situated on the first 8 miles from the sea and Consisting of 3 House beats and 5 let beats it offers more rods [40] than any other on the river.
The Facilities are more sparse than most Spey beats But each beat has a fishing hut and chemical toilet for the 5 rods fishing. Each beat has reasonable vehicular access and most pools are very easy to wade.
Each beat has a full-time Ghillie who meets you at the car park of the Gordon Arms Hotel each morning. B
Gordon Castle Water has 3 beats below the road bridge at Fochabers and forms part of the Fochabers Association Water until August, thereafter returning to the Castle. The 3 beats are then let as 6 rods beats for the final and best 6 weeks of the season.
Brae Water are 5 beats above the Road bridge at Fochabers. Beats 1 and 2 are let as two 3 rod beats, separately from beats 3,4 and 5 which are fished on a rotational [daily] basis. This provides wonderful variation for rods fishing.
We have fishing on beats 1 and 2 during May, with the exception of the last two, a good time in recent years. Beat 2 is home to the most famous pool in this area. The Rock Pool is one of those "Must Fish" pools. A dream of a cast and with modern lines, fairly easy to cover.
Fishing on this estate is with fly only.
We have fishing on beats 1 and 2 on the following dates -
